Ma'me????????? Are you kidding?!

Today while I was in the checkout line at the store, I heard the words "Can I see your ID, Ma'me?" Ma'me??? I have a couple of things to say about that....

First- If you are going to go and call me ma'me, then why are you even asking me for my ID? Ma'me is reserved for an older generation... not me! And I am sure whenever I reach that so called generation I will still feel its not right for me. I hate being called ma'me. It makes me feel so old , boring and frumpy. I am starting a movement on teaching the sons of this world another word to replace ma'me. I have become a person who has a problem with getting older. Things are just happening to fast and the years are slipping through my fingers. I remember thinking my parents were SOOOO old when they were this age. And here I am....I have arrived where I most feared. And I am only 34. Imagine whats it going to be like when I turn 40. EEK....catch me I just might faint

Second- I sometimes get this little giddy feeling inside when I am asked for my ID. Of course I know not to assume that he really thinks I might be under 21 but it still makes me feel a little bit better about myself. Especially since I always imagine them telling themselves as they are looking at my ID .."Good God this woman is 34, she is no where near being young, hot and 20!" And why is it that when I don't have my kids with me I get ID'd but when I have my kids I don't ever get ID'd. Do I look younger without the screaming children hanging on me? (You must be thinking I buy alot of alcohal but really I don't...it's so horribly expensive!)

So when the guy at the checkout counter combines asking me for my ID AND calling me ma'me....I really don't know how to feel about that. I can't be upset about him calling me ma'me because he asked for my ID. And I can't get that giddy feeling because he called me ma'me. Men! They just don't get it.
