The first of many discussions

The other night while sitting down for dinner, we asked Kyler if he has heard about when they would be doing Sex Ed in class. (Todd is convinced they will start in 5th grade. I am not so sure, I don't remember it starting so early) Well the look on Kylers face was a mixture of confusion and horror. It was pretty funny! You could tell he was slightly embarrassed but didn't know why he should be. So here was the conversation....

Kyler- "Huh?" (with his usual dramatic and animated look on his face)

Todd-"You know...Sexual Education. You'll have a class talking about how your body changes as you get older and we want to have that talk before the school does."

Kyler- "Dad..I know!" (Embarrassment in his voice)

Me-"And you'll learn how babies come to be"

Kylers eyes are looking every which way but at us

Todd- "As you get older changes are going to happen and soon you'll find girls more interesting."

Me- "Do you find any girls cute right now?"

Kyler- "MOM!"

Me- "Well eventually you will grow up and get married....it's nothing to be embarrassed about. So...."

Kyler gets a little pink and reluctantly slightly nods his head. Of course he wouldn't tell me who but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the neighbor girl that lives on the other side of our back fence. She is a little cutie. They are in the same grade and have been friends since we moved in here 4 yrs ago.
This is a typical scene in our backyard....
I'll give you 3 guesses on how this scene is going to be played out in about 5 yrs. I mean Hollywood has written this story a hundred times over! So, I am selling advanced tickets if anyone is interested.

I need some help

I am usually a person of strong will. I am not easily tempted by things. Sweets in particular. Ice cream?...Nah not interested. Candy?...no thanks. Cookies?....not usually. And thank goodness because my thighs don't need anymore help!

BUT!..........last week Todd went shopping with me, which is always a big mistake because so many unneccesary things find their way into the cart. He decided he was in a ding dong mood. So thinking nothing of it since they were only $1.98, I said fine whatever. We get home, I put them in our pantry, which also doubles as our garage and went on with my day. Like I said I didn't think to much about it. The next day I heard a small voice coming from the garage...."Andreeeeaaaa...I'm in hereeeee" I was a little confused about who it could be but decided to check on it later. A couple of hours later...."Yooohooooo...did you hear me?" Again confused but now alittle annoyed because it was interuppting what I was doing. After dinner I heard it again..."Helloooooooo..come and get me" I could resist that sweet, still small voice no longer!
Here is the devil dressed up in foil right here

And there it is gone...once again I gave in to the temptation. Why oh why is this happening to me? I was proud of the fact that I could resist and pass up all the temptations of the past. I am scared for my life here! What is going to come of this? Next thing I know they'll move from garage-pantry status to kitchen -pantry status... and if that happens? All hope is lost!

I'll forever be a Ding Dong!

Someone loves me

Guess who took a break from work and drove all the way home just to bring me these?

Isn't he great? Sometimes he really does manage to surprise me!

*SMOOCH* I love ya!

Ma'me????????? Are you kidding?!

Today while I was in the checkout line at the store, I heard the words "Can I see your ID, Ma'me?" Ma'me??? I have a couple of things to say about that....

First- If you are going to go and call me ma'me, then why are you even asking me for my ID? Ma'me is reserved for an older generation... not me! And I am sure whenever I reach that so called generation I will still feel its not right for me. I hate being called ma'me. It makes me feel so old , boring and frumpy. I am starting a movement on teaching the sons of this world another word to replace ma'me. I have become a person who has a problem with getting older. Things are just happening to fast and the years are slipping through my fingers. I remember thinking my parents were SOOOO old when they were this age. And here I am....I have arrived where I most feared. And I am only 34. Imagine whats it going to be like when I turn 40. EEK....catch me I just might faint

Second- I sometimes get this little giddy feeling inside when I am asked for my ID. Of course I know not to assume that he really thinks I might be under 21 but it still makes me feel a little bit better about myself. Especially since I always imagine them telling themselves as they are looking at my ID .."Good God this woman is 34, she is no where near being young, hot and 20!" And why is it that when I don't have my kids with me I get ID'd but when I have my kids I don't ever get ID'd. Do I look younger without the screaming children hanging on me? (You must be thinking I buy alot of alcohal but really I don't...it's so horribly expensive!)

So when the guy at the checkout counter combines asking me for my ID AND calling me ma'me....I really don't know how to feel about that. I can't be upset about him calling me ma'me because he asked for my ID. And I can't get that giddy feeling because he called me ma'me. Men! They just don't get it.

Whats For Dinner Mom?

Today is my first shared recipe! Lately I have discovered a stronger like for cooking. It has not reached the love status yet but could someday soon. Tonight I made.....

Get Yo Man Chicken
I hate the name of the recipe (which I got from Food Network) because it doesn't describe what it is and it certainly doesn't get my man because Todd doesn't like. But what does he know? I love it, its easy to make and my kids agree to eat with me. I'll have to think of a new name.
So here are the cast of characters...

2 Tb olive oil
6 chicken thighs
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 onion sliced or chopped (whichever you prefer)
1 cup of chicken stock
1/2 cup of white wine
1 large can crushed tomatoes in thick puree
1 small can tomato puree
1 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tb dried rosemary
1 tb lemon pepper
2 tb chopped parsley

Heat oil in skillet over medium high heat. Season chicken with salt and pepper. Brown the chicken for about 4 min on each side. Transfer to plate to reserve.
Add onion to the pan and saute until tender. Add stock and wine and stir, deglazing the pan. Now a little side note about the wine. I used to not cook with wine because I don't like white wine and therefore never had it on hand. And I wasn't going to go buy a whole bottle of it when I only needed 1/2 cup. But then I discovered this.....

This has been sooooo great because I can buy it for a couple of dollars and keep it in the fridge for when I need a cup here or there. I usually keep a couple in the pantry. Ok lets continue...

Turn to high and reduce by half, about 3 min. Pour in both cans of tomatoes and add dried herbs and lemon pepper. Add the chicken back in, cover and cook on medium low for about 40 min. When its done we serve it on a scoop of rice. Sometimes I butter the rice but today I wasn't in the butter mood. But whatever makes YOUR skirt fly!

MMMMM doesn't it look good? See here is proof that my kids will even eat it..

So that's whats for dinner tonight! Or at least WAS for dinner. Its yummy in my tummy now.
What did you have for dinner tonight??????????????

What I love and What I hate Wednesday

This is my first installement of What I love and What I hate Wednesday and I know it might stretching it but I am confident that you'll be able to work with me. Next week I am planning on participating in "Talk Tuesday" and Tackle it Tuesday" on other blogs that I read so be sure and check back to see if I had firgured out how to link my site to theirs. But anyways....

What I love....

TATTOOS

And I love that my husband has tattoos. I think it just adds to his "hotness"! He is in the process of redoing hs arm so that's why it looks a little odd. Its a slow process cuz its not a cheap hobby. He also has a dragon on his back that was poorly done and really needs an over haul but like I said its pricey so we choose not to think about it right now. Here is the only picture I could find of it on our computer..

I also have a tattoo. I got it when I was 21 and it's looking pretty faded. No one really sees it cuz its in a horrible spot. This morning I tried to take a picture of it which was not very easy considering its on my back. but here it is...

I eventually want to cover it with something else. I have it pictured in my mind. A black sleek and sexy mama cat with a pink jeweled collar looking over at two little kittens with blue collars and the boys names on them. Unfortunatly I don't see that happening in the near future because its not very often I have a spare $100 laying around (ok well ..maybe I never do). So there you have it...I love tattoos! But mostly on my husband :)

What I hate....

I hate when people ignore and don't respond to emails! My emails to be specific. I was thinking about it this morning and it really got me irritated. I mean if you have the time to check your email then you have the time to send a small reply. Its only common courtesy people. I don't like talking on the phone so I do alot of communicating on the computer so it makes me feel sad when I don't get reponses. If you are on those people then Shame on you! Even though your probably not even reading this cuz my email about me starting this blog was probably ignored...Shame on you again!

One more thing I also hate is going to the store thinking you are only going to spend about $50 at the most and coming out of there spending $117....*sigh* My goal is to not go to the store for the rest of the month (except for milk cuz we go through alot....oh and bologna because I forgot to get that for kaden)

What do you love? What do you hate?

Any questions?

Lessons Learned

Todd got a movie in the mail the other day that he was real excited about. It was called The Privileged Planet. Its a documentary on the uniqueness of the earth and how its impossible for all the factors and calculations to just have happened by accident. These things get Todd fired up and so Kyler was told he was going to watch it with us because Todd wanted it to be a learning experience. Kyler was not happy about being told that. He complained and carried on about it for awhile (I couldn't blame him because I wasn't really interested in watching it myself but I kept my mouth shut)
So we sit down to watch it while the drama called Kyler is still taking place. But at this point there was no getting out of it. I told him it's only an hour, he will survive and he might find something interesting because he does like science.

This is Kyler dreaming of Cartoon Network in the other room....

Some points were interesting but I have to admit it got a little geeky at times. Here is Kyler and I trying to put on out best bored and pouty faces....

And what was Todd doing? Mr "This is going to be learning experience and your going to like it"?....

Sleeping! Hilarious! Next time, if you want to get a point across...you might want to try and stay awake
